1. Sort the list of records by clicking on the headings. Records will alternate their sort order between ascending and descending as you click on the headings.
2. Select, by clicking the check box on the left of each record, each sample that is to be sent to the laboratory (the Select All and Un-Select All buttons can also be used).
3. Select the required laboratory from the list as well as the sending staff of the samples and the receiving staff of the results.
Note: Only laboratories set up by the user in the Laboratories form will be displayed. In addition, at least one sample in the chain of custody list must use an analytical package from that lab for the lab to appear. The sending and receiving staff lists are generated from the Staff form.
4. If required, select a comment from the comment drop down list or type your own.
5. Choose an option under the Chain Detail heading. This option only affects the electronic file and is used to determine how much information will be displayed in the electronic file.
6. If required, choose a project number from the drop down list or type your own. The list of project numbers is generated from the Site form.
7. Press Print Hardcopy Chain of Custody Form. A preview of the paper copy of the sample information, including space for custody signatures, if required will appear. An example of this form is shown below. Press Ctrl+P to print.
Note: One of the features of the hardcopy chain of custody form is the bottle ID which matches the bottle ID placed on the label.

8. If a disc copy of the chain of custody information is required, press the Create Electronic Chain of Custody File button. The system will prompt for a diskette in the A drive, and a file name.
9. Once positive the hardcopy and electronic file information is correct, press the Update DB to Mark Samples as Shipped button to update the database to indicate that these samples have been sent to the laboratory. These samples will now be removed from this form.
